~a giving swap~

"Kindness in words creates confidence.
Kindness in thinking creates profoundness.
Kindness in giving creates love."

Lao Tzu

I made a gift.
This is the pattern.

It is meant to be a sundress.
But I thought,"why not a fall jumper?"
So I proceeded confidently.
a knit bodice...

Crisscrossed in the back...
I decided on two strands of Sundara...
two separate but complimenting colors,
with a profound result.

very regal...
so it was perfect for this little princess.

a deep regal purple baby corduroy...
I made pleats...instead of gathers...
and of course it had to be lined with a
lighter color sateen.
After all it is for a princess.

She loves it...
so happy she twirled and twirled...
I should have had a modeled view...
but she wore it with a pink polka dot top {smile}
she is after all a princess...so she may do as she likes...

Do you have this book ?
As I said earlier,
I have been thinking about giving...
and wondering if you wanted to as well.
I would like to organize a swap.
A Knitter's Magic Yarn ball swap.
And am looking for say...30-50 people to pair up for this.
The idea is simple.
You wind a skein of yarn around some trinkets...
let's say you start with a small pincushion...or whatever...
and continue to wind...adding a few things here and there...
and finally you have a ball.
All wound with treasures to share.
tie it with a pretty ribbon and send it off.
We could aim to send it the first of the new year...
I know this year unfortunately is rapidly approaching an end.
So let me know if you are interested.
I will do the match ups and send each person their partner.
I'd like to have all interested names
and emails by the beginning of December.
I think this sort of kindness is something
we all could use now and again.
So...what do you think??

the day is finished~

"Finish each day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in'
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day,
you shall begin it well and serenely..."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am in search of serene.
A week with the flu has left me blundering...

But I have done what I could...
rested...
slept...
read...

no knitting...
but I wanted to show you this...
nothing absurd...
wool strips hooked on a woolen background.
hand dyed wool..
made into a pocket...

reminiscent of the Early American pockets...
a bag...a purse of sorts.
can hold your knitting...
or some small essentials.
the pattern is a simple flower,
Autumn colors...
in a flower pot...

Something to remember the day that is finished...
and tomorrow we start anew.....

~the right tools~

"We shall neither fail nor falter;
we shall not weaken or tire...
give us the tools and we will finish the job"

Winston Churchill

With the right tools, you can do anything...
so they say.

With the right glasses... you can see clearly...

with the right pen...
you express your thoughts on paper,

with the right needles...
you complete the perfect knit.

Namaste...
I left you with this last time...
simply meaning "I bow to you."

But also meaning this Namaste...
and their Vintage Needle bag ...

the right tool for you and your knitting...
and this tool goes to:

Sarah...Bee House Hives!!

So I can get back to my needles ;)

I do smile~and a giveaway

I do smile....

I do...

I have be given an award...by Camilla
A Kreative Blogger Award ... an honor from a friend.
who herself has such a wonderful, and creative blog.
That makes me smile ;)
Along with this award, comes some stipulations,
as they always do:

1. Copy the award to your site.
2. Link to the person from whom you received the award.
3. Nominate 7 other bloggers.
4. Link to those sites on your blog.
5. Leave a message on the blogs you nominate.

...and list 7 things about yourself.

hmmm...then...I do not smile....

no problems with 1 & 2...[ the award is in the side bar]
#3...I shy from, because I want to nominate you all.
you all are inspiring...and you all deserve awards...

and 7 things about me...
well..that is the hardest of all.
I've said a little here and here and here ...
but...
you know,
I really shy from that...
so what I will say is:
In true Virgo fashion,I am my own worst critic;
I am soft where I should be hard;
and hard where I should be soft;
I try very hard not to be artificial;
I try to be true and loyal;
I do smile-although in front of the camera I freeze;
and I love to laugh-even if I come across as serious.

see...a frozen sort of smile...
but one none the less.

and some knitting...
well that always makes me smile.
And I want to make someone else smile.
So in honor of me receiving and award...I am having another little drawing.
a surprise, because after all it is Halloween week,
so some mystery should be involved.
You will like it...
you will smile...
I'll reveal it in a week or so.
leave me a comment and I'll count you in...
until then...
all I will say is
Namaste...

smile.

a little black magic

"That old black magic has me in its spell.
That old black magic that you weave so well....."

Johnny Mercer
The witching hour is upon us...
and all the little ghosties and ghoulies will be on the prowl,
for sweets that is...;))
.
So in honor....
I made a little black magic of my own...
conjured up another pair of these
...for a friend ...
who just happens to be
the it behind Halloween Madness

oh,and beware...
you never know what sort of web you may get tangled up in.
Happy Halloween...hehehehehehehehehe...............................

Tasmanian toasty snood~

okay...now,what is a snood?

snood (snd)
n.
1. A small netlike cap worn by women to keep the hair in place.
2. A headband or fillet.
3. A fleshy wrinkled fold of skin that hangs down over a turkey's beak.
tr.v. snood·ed, snood·ing, snoods
To hold (the hair) in place with a snood.

hmmmm.
looks like a cowl...
but I begged off cowl's last winter...

it's that whole ,
pulling it over the head, messing up your hair thing...
but Michele...
so beautiful,kind and generous...
gifted me this wonderful alpaca...
straight from the alpaca's in Tasmania...
and I wanted to use it close to my body,
to feel the warmth and softness.

tried several patterns...
and not really happy with any,
started this snood...
from Rowan Winter Gifts...
and came to love it...
problem is...

it's not a net for my hair,
it's not a headband,
and oooooh...
I hope it's not that fleshy turkey thing...
don't tell anyone...
we'll just call it a cowl for now....

and seriously...how could I not share this...?

unpredictable/transformable

"We cannot become what we need to be
by remaining what we are"

Max De Pree

So I changed my mind.
With all of your input.
The other buttons went...
these remain.

Really, it was an after thought.
I had fully intended to use the others...
but there were only 7 ...
I need 8...
so I was looking for a substitute...
the rest is history.

I bought these in Maine
a long time ago
some sort of antler
each button unique in shape,
but similar in tone...the right tones for my etole...

etole transformable from La Droguerie
my Autumn etole...
clearly transformable..
a shrug,
a scarf,
a wrap of sorts...

I don't feel comfortable publishing the pattern.
it was a gift.
What I can tell you is it is basically a long rectangle...
garter stitched edges.
buttonholes...and 4 buttons... either side
easy...quick do it in 15 hours minutes...
you can figure it out...
you are unpredictable,no?
transformable,yes?
try it...
